Shoot Day: 29th November +Reflections

This shoot was left exclusively for re-shooting, as it was our last shooting session. We decided what we were going to re-shoot and when during the week, while going through and reviewing the footage.

We begun with the 50s narrative scenes, which needed re-shooting because we felt that Jacob's lip-syncing was not exaggerated enough previously. During this shoot, we paid particular attention to his lip-sync when directing him, constantly encouraging him behind the camera, and also turning the music up so he could sing the song without feeling self-conscious. This was the longest set to set up and shoot as we had to get the cars up again, and also had to change the camera for the most set-ups.

Filming the 50s. We used the monitor to look at the scene rather than watching them to help them feel less self-conscious, and also so we could see how Jacob's lip-sync looked on camera.

We then went on to re-shoot some of the 80s scenes, as Jacob's lip-sync was not clear in parts of it, and we also needed to get a new CU of him on the bench.

In order to ensure the entire set was lit, Chris had Audrey, Chrystal and I all at different positions on the bench, while he adjusted the lighting manually.

During the 80s shots, I was shaving, as the look of the band is clean cut, so it would have made less sense for me to have stubble.

As we had found Jacob's red jumper, and we were desperate not to re-shoot the ECU, we decided to also re-shoot the wide shot and Jacob's individual shots. This was also due to the fact that we thought the red jumper suited the band more, as it is more colourful and therefore seems more fun, connoting indie-pop.

The lead that we originally used for Chrystal's bass went missing, so we used a similar lead that was in the studio.

Jacob in his red jumper, which we thought worked better, as it fit the indie-pop image, as well as with the overall band image.

Ju and Jacob during the modern era scenes
Setting up the band scene took longer than expected, as we were unable to find one of Juliette's leads, so we had to improvise with the guitar leads that were available. However, to speed things up later on, Juliette decided to get into her next era make-up so that it would only be Jacob needed to do this.

Finally, we shot two shots for the modern narrative, the MS of the two characters and the CU of Juliette.

Juliette already being in costume and make-up really helped, as it saved time when we got to filming the modern narrative scenes, meaning we could get filming a lot quicker, and have time for publicity shots.

We also took publicity shots for the band, 90s and 50s (see Shoot Day: 29th November Publicity Shots).
