Shoot Day: 15th November Publicity Shots

On this day, we took publicity shots for the 80s era, 70s era, and modern era. I, along with Audrey and Chrystal, directed Jacob and Juliette for these, with Audrey and Chrystal taking the photos.

Some of the ideas we came up with were:

Jacob looking adoringly at Juliette. This idea was constructed to create the 'couple-y love' of the characters.

This shot is recreating the 'prom' aspect of school, the characters in a pose that is typical of the prom photos taken.

We also tried to do some quite fun, happy shots, so having her lean on him and them both directly address the camera while smiling allowed us to create this image, while maintaining the couple-chemistry.

For the 70s shots, we took a few that were based around referencing 'Saturday Night Fever', like:

We had Jacob do the 'Saturday Night Fever' DVD cover pose, in order to solidify the inter-textual reference, as well as having the disco ball present in most of the shots, as this clearly connotes the disco era. We also had Jacob and Juliette pose in the dance sequence, which again connotes disco, and also makes them seem quite fun and lively.

We did a similar pose to the 80s publicity shots, with them both directly addressing the camera and her arms around him. This makes them seem like they have more chemistry to the audience.
This one was done to represent the more cutesy-friendship that the two share, with them both smiling into the camera and her head on his shoulder.

For the modern era, we included poses such as posing for selfies (a typical part of modern culture), and also the generic couple shots.

We took a few of the selfie shots, as well as shots of them both looking back over the selfies (below). This makes them seem quite fun and playful, while once again playing on the friendship of the two characters.

We did more couple poses, which made them both seem quite playful. In this one, he's leaning on her, accentuating their height difference, and emphasising the playfulness of the shot.

This is a typical couple shot, with the Juliette kissing Jacob on the cheek as he looks into the camera. This is quite playful and connotes the romance between the two characters in the narrative, a key theme in the video.
