Shoot day: 15th November + reflections

During this shoot, we decided to shoot the 70s scenes, and the 80s scenes.
The 80s set, with 'The Breakfast Club' references being the bench/school gym setting, and also Juliette's costume, which was styled to look like the character Alison from the film. Jacob's costume was based on Rick Astley in 'Never Gonna Give You Up', a large 80s reference.

During this shoot, it was predominantly myself, Audrey and Chrystal directing, but when Juliette wasn't in shot, she also directed as well.

When we changed to shoot the 70s, Audrey, Chrystal, Chris and myself prepared the set, taping down the disco floor so it doesn't move during their dance sequence, as this would be both a safety hazard and compromising of the shot. We had to enlist Chris' help to put up the disco ball, as we weren't allowed to put this up by ourselves. The disco floor and disco ball were used here to connote the 70s era, referencing 'Saturday Night Fever'.

In order to check the positioning of the disco ball, we kept the camera on, and this allowed us to see where on frame the disco ball would appear.
During this time, Juliette and Jacob changed their costume and make-up, with Jacob's being done to reference the characters from 'Velvet Goldmine'.

Juliette was once again our make-up artist, doing both Jacob's and her own make-up.

As with the 80s scenes, myself, Audrey and Chrystal were directing the shots, trying to ensure that we got the best performance possible.

REFLECTIONS

This is the footage for the 80s and after reviewing it ourselves, and getting feedback, we decided:

- The shots needed to be graded to ensure the characters' skin tones are not too yellow (done in the vido above)

- Needed to re-shoot the wide shots, due to Jacob's lip-syncing not being exaggerated enough

- Needed a mid-shot of Jacob to break up the wide shot and speed up the editing pace, as it is currently too slow

Another thing we realised was that we needed to include a close-up of Jacob in the 70s scenes, which we hadn't done, so we decided it was something that we needed to re-shoot.
